Firesafe Demonstration Garden

The FireSafe Demonstration Garden is a joint effort between Santa Clara Master Gardeners and CalFire. In the garden plant types and their placement demonstrate how a homeowner can landscape in an attractive fashion and still maintain property as safe from fire danger as possible.

The Garden is located on Monterey Highway close to Watsonville Road in Morgan Hill. This is close to many homes built in the wooded areas of the Santa Cruz Mountains and up in the hills surrounding Anderson Reservoir and Uvas Lake.

Firesafe Garden before Master Gardeners began to reinvent it.

After a difficult first year due to highway drainage work, the Firesafe Garden is developing into a demonstration garden of plants that are most appropriate to plant in fire danger areas. On the right is a design for the finished garden. This garden hopes to become part of the public events that CalFire attends to provide information on proper planting for fire safety.
