In 2004 at Presentation Retreat and Conference Center, the Master Gardeners established a new demonstration garden called Presentation Center Retreat Demonstration Garden. The Presentation Center is an international retreat and educational gathering place; a peaceful 67-acre oasis tucked among the redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains just 20 minutes from Silicon Valley. Nestled in the woody foothills of Los Gatos, this organic sustainable garden provides an abundance of produce in the cool mountain climate.

Master Gardeners and Presentation volunteers literally recycled a abandoned tennis court (see below) into an organic, sustainable garden that provides fresh produce for Presentation Center’s kitchen. Master Gardeners are working every Thursday, tending the garden and harvesting fruit and vegetables for the chef.

First: the Master Gardeners laid down a foundation of gravel.
Next, soil and amendments were added, and an irrigation system was installed.

The garden is enclosed by a high fence to keep the deer out and visitors are requested to keep the gate closed.

There are yearly open garden events when Master Gardeners guide visitors through the beds. We love sharing our “Kitchen Garden in a Woodland” with the community.
